4 Tips To Reduce Oil Consumption

We all love good food. We always ensure that the food we prepare is high on taste. But in this process, we often overlook one main factor which is the HEALTH.

Do you always keep the health factor in mind while preparing our food? The answer would be NO. So, how can you ensure that the food you prepare is high on both HEALTH and TASTE?

One of the main drawback or negative aspect of Indian cooking is the amount of oil used in the preparation. Despite knowing that one should reduce the oil content in the food, how many of us actually do it?  Following are some of the ways in which you can reduce the oil consumption in your food.

It is one of the simplest ways to cut down the oil consumption. It might be an expensive option, but their longer lifespan as well as other benefits makes it worthy of each penny spent on it.

Steaming

One of the most efficient ways is to steam your veggies! It not only retains all the nutritional values but also cooks food faster without the requirement of any amount of oil. The one thing that we should keep in mind while using this method is to add the spices at the end to prevent them from washing away during the cooking.

Oil Free Baking

It’s a common practice to coat the baking tray with butter or oil before adding the dough. But do we realize that in this process, we are adding more calories to the already high- calorie dish?! A healthier alternative would be to use fruit pulp or puree to coat the baking tray instead of butter or oil. Banana or any other fruits puree can not only enhance the taste but also the nutrition level.

Cooking Sprays

Cooking sprays are the latest fad in the healthcare scenario! A lot of people are adopting this technique for a healthier lifestyle.

A cooking spray basically dispenses oil through special oil dispensing mechanism which splits a single oil drop into multiple droplets, so that it spreads evenly and covers a lot of surface on the pan. This not only helps in reducing the oil consumption upto 10 times but also maintains the taste of the food.

There are many brands available which add preservatives and hence should be avoided. There are also some brands which provide pure cooking oil without any extra additives.  It is mostly available in different variants like Olive oil, Sunflower, Rice bran etc.

The above four factors will help you in maintaining yours and your family’s good health.
